8:00am – 9:45am : 13 Behaviors of High Trust Leaders : Trust is the imperative to building solid, effective relationships with both external and internal customers!  In this session, Heather Woody will define the most important behaviors a leader and all contributors can do that will inspire healthy workplace relationships!

Speaker: Heather Woody, Master Certified Coach that teams with individuals personally and professionally to help them experience their greatness.  She has a passion for working with people in organizations as they pursue their key goals and objectives while also building a fulfilling career and personal life. Heather is a Master Certified Coach through the Certified Coach Federation.  Heather is a graduate of Coach Inc., one of the largest international training organizations for professional coaches.  She also holds a BA from the University of Northern Iowa in Public Relations and Communications.

10:00am -11:45am : COSO Framework : All organizations are susceptible to fraudulent activities. Fortunately, management accountants and finance professionals play a critical role in helping their organizations identify, deter, and report fraud risks. Though it is impossible to permanently eradicate all fraud in all organizations, there are a number of resources and best practices that companies can utilize to help develop an effective fraud risk management program. Sandy will present on best practices to help keep your company safe.

Speaker: Sandra Richtermeyer, Sandra Richtermeyer is dean of the Manning School of Business. She has more than 25 years of higher education experience, including more than 12 years in academic leadership roles. She works actively with a variety of professional organizations. She was the 2010-2011 Global Chair for IMA. She has also served as a member of the Executive Board of the Ohio Society of CPAs, a board member on the Committee of Sponsoring Organization (COSO) of the Treadway Commission, in addition to service on the U.S. Comptroller General’s Green Book Advisory Council. She holds both her Ph.D. in accounting and her M.S. and MBA from the University of Colorado.

 

11:45am – 12:45pm Lunch : Buffet available to everyone attending the seminar (both full day attendees and half day attendees)


12:45pm – 2:30pm : Ethics – The Slippery Slope of Greed: This class will help participants identify and recognize common fraud risk factors and determine the five components of internal control included in the COSO that are related to the applied case study.  Participants will be able to recognize deficiencies in an organization’s internal controls and poor governance.

Speaker: Janet Henry, CMA, MBA, is Senior Financial Analyst at United Fire Group. She has also taught accounting as an adjunct at Kirkwood and Mount Mercy University. She was past president of the Cedar Rapids Chapter of IMA as well as an IMA Global Board member and Sub-Committee Chair of the IMA Global Audit Committee. In her spare time she is busy chasing her 3 very active boys to and from sports activities.

2:45pm-4:30pm : Insurance Transparency and Consumer Confidence: This two hour workshop will draw attention to insurance consumer attitudes on honesty, ethics and trust highlighting a variety of surveys. Most of the focus will be on the study of Iowa consumer attitudes about auto insurance rating based on insurance credit scoring. We will draw some lessons about the difficulties and opportunities of building transparency and trust when dealing with complex issues.

Speaker: Dr. Randy Richards, is a Professor Emeritus at St. Ambrose University where he taught in the Management Department. He continues to teach there part-time and as a visiting professor at universities in Germany, Croatia and Lithuania. He is a published author with a focus on issues in organizational behavior, conflict and adult learning. He is a second career academic having spent twenty years in management before becoming a full-time professor. Over the last 25 years, he has taught thousands of people in professional and management workshops. He has an active consulting and coaching practice as well. Currently, Randy is most active in his consulting and workshops on leadership, conflict management, team building and dialogical skills. His workshops are known for the high degree of participant involvement, practical application, challenging questioning and just plain fun. Randy’s workshops begin and end with people’s real experiences on the job.​
